Ervin L. Markwald

1925-2020

Ervin L. Markwald, 94, of Hot Springs Village, passed peacefully on January 28, 2020. Ervin was born in Benton Harbor, Michigan to the late Emil and Lydia Schmuller Markwald. After graduating from Stevensville High School, he enlisted in the United States Army. During WWII, Ervin proudly served as a squad leader and rifle marksman. He was honored with an American Theater Service Medal, an Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, and a Philippine Liberation Ribbon.

When Ervin returned stateside, he began a long career as a mechanical engineer for Whirlpool. Upon retirement, he settled in Hot Springs Village enjoying his time golfing, making friends, and helping the community through the Hot Springs Village Lions Club.

Ervin lost his wife of sixty four years, Joyce June Markwald, in February of 2018.

He will be dearly missed by his children, Tim (Evelyn) Markwald and Tabitha (Celie) Niehaus; his grandchildren Lauren Sloan, Joshua Markwald, and Gabriel Markwald; great-grandchildren Evan, Leah and Lana; and his longtime church family at Faith Lutheran Church (especially the Men’s Bible Study Class).

A Memorial Service at Faith Lutheran Church in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas will be announced at a later date.
