A new medical provider is on its way to Danville.

Select Specialty Hospital, a long-term acute care hospital, will be the newest tenant at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, according to EMH President and CEO Dan McKay.

“We are expecting that they will move in the first week of May,” McKay said. “Currently, I think they have about 120 full-time employees that will be working out of Danville.”

In addition to rental income, McKay said EMH will also receive income from ancillary services that Select will use at the hospital.

Select Specialty Hospital is currently part of the University of Kentucky HealthCare system and is located inside Lexington’s Good Samaritan Hospital. McKay said Select Specialty will be located on the fourth floor of EMRMC. That space has been vacant for at least two years, and was most recently used as a skilled nursing center to provide care for patients who needed additional care before being able to go home, according to McKay.

Danville-Boyle County Economic Development Partnership President and CEO Jody Lassiter issued a statement via email on the addition of Select to EMH and Boyle County.

“We welcome Select Medical to Danville’s significant health care community. The health care sector is one of the EDP’s key target markets for growth and development, and Ephraim McDowell Health is a critical partner in this effort. As a member of our board of directors and marketing committee, Dan McKay informed us of this project at an early stage. Because of this, we had the opportunity to advise Select Medical’s team about their relocation decision and business incentive options. This is another great example of our team approach to economic development.”

Representatives from Select Specialty Hospital could not be reached as of press time.
