John Richard Clay

1952-2020

John Richard Clay died Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at the UK Chandler Medical Center. Born Feb. 7, 1952, in Danville, he was a son of the late Martha Bisset Clay and James F. Clay. Richie earned his high school diploma at Baylor School, Chattanooga, Tenn, his bachelor’s degree at the University of Virginia and his law degree from the Salmon P. Chase College of Law. He practiced law in Danville with the family firm, Clay and Clay. He was predeceased by a brother, James F. Clay Jr.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Eleanor Monohan Clay of Danville, his daughters, Katherine (Ryan) St. Clair of Lexington, Sarah Eleanor Clay of Louisville and Elizabeth Eaves Clay of Danville; two sisters, Martha Anne (Robert) Nichols of Louisville and Elizabeth (Jose) Fernandez-Clay of Madrid, Spain; a brother, Thomas E. Clay of Louisville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
