Man arrested after crashing his truck into a residence

A Harrodsburg man was arrested on several charges after he fled from law enforcement and crashed into a home on Apache Trail Friday night.

The suspect, later identified as Austin Daniel Howell, 34, was driving a white Ford pickup truck on Main Street Friday night when a sheriff’s deputy attempted to make a traffic stop, according to a Boyle County Sheriff’s Office news release. Howell fled from the deputy and Danville Police officers soon joined in the pursuit through several streets. Howell allegedly ran several stop signs, red lights and traveled the wrong way on a one-way street, according to the release.
Because of the dangerous actions of the truck’s driver, a deputy attempted to stop the pickup truck with his patrol vehicle during the pursuit. While doing so, the truck became entangled with the patrol vehicle and Howell allegedly accelerated again and drug the patrol vehicle with him. The pickup truck then ran into the front of a residence on Apache Trail.
According to the release, a brief struggle ensued while officers got Howell out of the truck. During the encounter, Howell resisted arrest by kicking deputies and officers. A DPD officer was taken to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center for a non-life threatening injury sustained during the scuffle.
Deputies found two containers with a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine, and several used needles inside Howell’s truck.
Howell was taken to the Boyle County Detention Center and charged with first-degree fleeing or evading police; speeding 26 mph over limit; reckless driving; first-degree wanton endangerment; resisting arrest; first-degree criminal mischief; possession of drug paraphernalia; possession of meth; third-degree assault; disregarding a traffic light; improper passing; disregarding stop sign and improper signal.
As of Saturday afternoon Howell’s bond had not been set.
Boyle Sheriff Derek Robbins said a woman was at home when the truck ran into her house. She wasn’t in the room that was struck and she wasn’t injured, but Robbins said, she was shaken up.
