Junction City’s 2020-2021 budget shows the city will have a surplus of more than $400,000 once all expenditures are paid out during the next fiscal year.

The council approved first reading of the budget Thursday night, when members met at the city park. The city’s total projected revenue is $930,850 and the total expenditures for the city and fire and police departments is $526,190, leaving a carryover of $404,660.

All lines of revenue were projected to be up slightly from last year, except for money it receives from rental property. City Clerk Susan Music said the city will no longer lease the community center for public events and parties because the building will be demolished. Also, city hall won’t be leasing the upstairs apartment once the offices are moved to the new building. And, Danville is no longer leasing space at city hall to store water department equipment, Music said. The old city hall and fire department building will probably also eventually be torn down, she said.

In the general fund expenditures, Junction has projected it will be saving about $51,000 next fiscal year in building repair and maintenance and utilities since it will be moving into the new building. It is also expecting to pay $51,000 in insurance compared to $11,000 in insurance paid this year, according to the proposed budget. Total expenditures are predicted to be $393.660.

The total expenditures for the police department is set at $219,250. The total for the fire department is $59,240.

Municipal aid expenditures will decrease from last year’s budget by $35,000. Music said this is because no street blacktopping projects will be undertaken this year.
