Constitution Square gets floral facelift

The flower bed that frames Constitution Square Historic Site’s Governors’ Circle is now full of pink and white flowers, thanks to Boyle County High School’s FFA program and members of the Garden Club of Danville.
The COVID-19 pandemic forced BCHS FFA members to withdraw from their first-ever contract with the county to cultivate, plant and care for the flowers at the park this spring and summer. However, before the pandemic shut the school down, students had already started growing about 750 vica plants for their project.
Earlier this month, Boyle Fiscal Court agreed to pay the FFA for the flowers and have them planted, since students weren’t allowed to participate due to COVID-19 restrictions.
On Wednesday, county workers picked up the plants and delivered them to Constitution Square, where several members of the Garden Club of Danville were waiting with masks and work gloves and volunteered to plant the flowers. James Ross, who will be caring for the park’s flower beds this season, was also on hand to strategically place where each flower should be planted.
