Danville-Boyle County Parks and Recreation will hold a special community workday from 9 a.m to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 30. Director John Bell hopes volunteers will turn out to help, and assures those who plan to participate — social distancing guidelines will be followed.

All volunteers must pre-register by Thursday, May 28, in order for the department to set up safe distances.

“This is to help the Parks & Rec staff get Millennium Park ready to reopen,” Bell said, which many in the community are excited about.

Volunteers will be divided into small groups to assist staff with light duty work throughout the park. Projects will include tree and bush trimming, weeding, painting, power-washing, equipment sanitizing and more.

The small groups of nine or less will work throughout Millennium Park and adhere to the social distancing guidelines, Bell said. “Each volunteer is required to wear a mask and gloves.”

Although it’s encouraged that volunteers bring their own masks and gloves, Parks will provide them if they don’t have their own.

“We really appreciate people who are willing to help keep the park safe and beautiful for the community to enjoy,” Bell said.
