Pet of the week: Meet Ollie

Ollile

Our featured pet this week is a good-looking fellow we named Ollie. He came to the shelter as a stray after finding his way to the friendly staff at Vendors Village. Ollie is a handsome chocolate lab mix with a small speck of white on his chest. Ollie doesn’t meet a stranger, being sure to greet you with a wiggly body and wagging tail.

Like many chocolate labs Ollie is full of energy and loves to play outside. He is now patiently awaiting his second chance after being neutered, updated on vaccines and treated for a minor skin reaction to fleas. This youthful 2-year old will thrive given proper routine and exercise. If you’re in search for a lovable adventure companion, search no more, Ollie is your guy!

As we get into the summer months and the temperatures rise, take some precautions to keep your pet safe. Always provide fresh, clean water for dogs and cats and make sure outdoor pets have a shady place to get out of the sun.

Exercise your pet during the cooler parts of the day, early morning or in the evening, and keep your pet off hot surfaces like cement and asphalt. Never leave your pet in a parked car when it’s warm out. In just a few minutes a parked car can become a dangerous furnace and lead to fatal heat stroke.

Summer is the season for fleas, ticks and mosquitos. Check with your veterinarian for the appropriate treatment to keep your dog or cat parasite free. With a little extra care and attention both you and your pet can have a fun and healthy summer!

Low-cost, high-quality spay/neuter surgery is available for pet owners with low and fixed incomes.  Call our Happy Paws Clinic today at (859) 691-1137 for an appointment. Please help control pet over-population by having your pet spayed or neutered.
