Searching for a job during the COVID-19 pandemic isn’t easy, but a collaboration between several local organizations is hoping to provide more options for job seekers in the area.

The Danville Economic Development Partnership Workforce Development Committee, the Danville-Boyle County Chamber of Commerce, Boyle County Library, Kentucky Career Center, Goodwill Industries of Kentucky, and the Central Kentucky Society of Human Resource Managers are working together to organize a drive-thru career fair on Thursday, July 16 at the Boyle County Fairgrounds.

The event, called “Curbside Careers”, will take place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and will adhere to CDC and state guidelines for social distancing and masks. Free masks will be available and social distancing will be practiced.

It’s all part of an effort to provide opportunities and information for potential job seekers while keeping people safe in accordance with public health guidance.

Jody Lassiter, president/CEO of the Danville EDP, said this is a unique opportunity to help local job seekers and companies that are in need of workers.

“Even while we adjust to the impacts of COVD-19, several of our local industries are still seeking to hire a significant number of jobs,” Lassiter said. “This opportunity allows a job seeker to interact at a social distance with multiple employers and apply without ever leaving the car.”

This job fair will focus on the industrial sector of the local economy, Lassiter said. Businesses represented will include American Greetings Corporation, LSC Communications Inc., and Adkev Inc.

“This unique event by the EDP’s Workforce Development Committee is focused on industrial employers in our community,” Lassiter said.

Lassiter added that this event will just be one of multiple career fairs coming up in the future, and the committee hopes to have career fairs that focus on other industries locally, including healthcare.
