Potential themes include the bourbon industry, sports, horse culture, local governance, and the culinary arts, with a look at how these industries work together to shape our unique culture and quality of life.

“The Norton Center has been committed to presenting culturally diverse programming for years,” said Norton Center Executive Director, Steve Hoffman. “This past June, our staff shared its Statement of Solidarity in response to the demands for social justice across the country.

“It seemed most appropriate to launch the first of our exciting new CULTURE + programs with a conversation around Black culture and feature local Black artists. The CULTURE + series will be live-streamed while we are in this pandemic and will be made accessible for everyone in the community.”

The first CULTURE + installment, titled “CULTURE + BLACK CULTURE MATTERS,” is scheduled for Aug. 13 at 7:30 p.m. The program will feature former Kentucky Poet Laureate Frank X Walker, award-winning author Yolantha Harrison-Pace, and musician Jessica Chisley. Centre College President Milton Moreland will introduce the program, which will be moderated by Centre Vice President for Diversity Affairs Andrea Abrams.

“Our first CULTURE + event will be a great opportunity for the community to engage in positive discourse about how each and every one of us can affect change,” Hoffman said. “Whether it is through the arts or elsewhere in our everyday lives, each one of us can have a positive impact.”
