Charles “Rastus” Yankey

1937-2020

Charles “Rastus” Yankey, 83, died August 25, 2020 in Danville. Born on March 17, 1937 to the late Brian and Ivy Cocanougher Yankey.

Rastus was a bricklayer for over 50 years. He loved what he did and took pride in all his work. He was an outstanding athlete through his younger years and continued to follow sports. Besides his love for his family and friends, one of his greatest loves was his horses. Trail riding was his passion. 

He attended The First Church of God in Danville, where he laid the brick on the building. 

He is predeceased by his loving wife, Norma Newby Yankey; and two sisters, JoAnna “Totsie” Bottoms, and Mildred “Doll” Catlett; three brothers, Harold ‘Red’ Yankey, Foster ‘Shorty’ Yankey, and Garland Yankey.

He is survived by his daughter, Lori Yankey of Danville; two sisters, Ruby “Chunk” Carpenter of Perryville, and Sue (Harvey) Bottoms of Danville; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be 1 p.m., Saturday, August 29, 2020 at The First Church of God in Danville. Rev. Kevin Cummins will officiate the service. Visitation will be prior to the service 11am – 1pm, Saturday August 29, 2020 at The First Church of God in Danville.
