Our pet of the week is Boo.

Boo is an inquisitive 3-month-old kitten with wide expressive eyes. His soft, fluffy coat is almost all black with a few wisps of white on his chest, and he loves to rub up against your legs to get your attention.

Boo enjoys being held and petted and lets you know he’s happy with a loud purr.

This little guy’s siblings were already adopted and he is eager to find his new home, too. Boo is litter-box trained, neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, and available for adoption right meow! 

Did you know? Danville- Boyle County Humane Society joined the Million Cat Challenge coalition in 2019. “The Million Cat Challenge (MCC) launched in 2014 as a shelter-based campaign to save the lives of one million cats in North America over five years. When the more than 1,000 participating animal shelters across North America reached and exceeded that goal a full year early, an even bolder goal was conceived: #allthecats.” 

The goals of cat management are to protect the welfare of cats, reduce the harm of cats, return lost cats to owners, resolve complaints, and reduce the number of free-roaming cats. Since DBCHS began implementing the best practices for cat management outlined by the MCC #allthecats, our “save rate” – the percentage of animals leaving the shelter through adoption, return to owner, or transfer to rescue – is higher than ever.

This year, DBCHS has placed more than 250 pets in loving homes, graduated 14 dogs from our Mutts With Manners program at Northpoint Training Center, and Happy Paws Clinic has performed over 350 low-cost spay or neuter surgeries. We couldn’t do it without a compassionate community. We’re grateful for your support, and we will see you back here next week with our featured dog or cat.
