Local house to be considered for National Register of Historic Places

The Kentucky Historic Preservation Review Board will consider the Marshall-Wallace House for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. The home is located at 350 Harberson Lane, near Parksville in western Boyle County.

The Board will meet at 10 a.m. EST, Oct. 13, by video teleconference, with review board members participating from remote locations. A copy of the nomination is available at the local library and at www.heritage.ky.gov. Ceramics studio membership available

The Art Center of the Bluegrass is offering ceramics studio memberships since its clay classes are temporarily on hold due to COVID-19. 

If your brain is fried by too much virtual learning/working/living, spending time in the studio is a fantastic creative outlet. Connect mind and body and feel your spirit calm as you work with clay.

Studio memberships are open to intermediate to advanced students — you must have completed at least one seven-week course with us, or have equivalent experience elsewhere. The $50/month fee provides expanded access to the studio (beyond our public hours), use of the Art Center wheels and tools, storage space for your supplies and projects, and access to the kiln.

Local student named semifinalist in 2021 National Merit® Scholarship Program 

Boyle County High School student Alexander D. Wise, has been named one of about 16,000 semifinalists in the 66th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. 

These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $30 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the finalist level of the competition. Over 90 % of the semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing, and more than half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title.

Danville Boyle County African American Historical Society — 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14 at the history center, 108 North Second Street. Social distancing will be observed and face coverings are required.

Perryville City Council — 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14 at city hall. Following CDC guidelines, this meeting will be live streamed through the City of Perryville Facebook page.
