The Boyle County Rebels boys’ soccer team faced off against the Lincoln County Patriots in a 45th District match-up at Rebel Stadium Tuesday.

The Rebels celebrated senior night before the game, honoring Colbey Yanders, Caleb Sims, Caleb Cincaid, Caden Ferrell, Gabe Hodge and Landon Simmons for their commitment to the program over their career.

Boyle County got off to a flying start with Yanders putting a volley into the bottom left corner and giving the Rebels an early advantage.

Ferrell doubled the lead with a thunderbolt from his right foot into the bottom right corner of the net.

The rest of the first half was less entertaining than the first fifteen minutes, but the Rebels still managed to carve out some chances.

Sophomore Tristan Compton and Hodge both had very good opportunities to score, but neither panned out, and Boyle went into halftime with a 2-0 lead.

The second half started very slowly, with no chances for either team coming until about twenty minutes into the half.

The first goal of the second half came off the foot of Compton. Freshman Fain Hackney played an exquisite through ball to Sims who fired a cross into Compton who buried his shot in the back of the net.

A few minutes after the Compton goal, the Patriots took a shot that ricocheted off the hand of a Rebel defender, giving Lincoln County a spot kick.

A Patriot forward stepped up and put the ball into the bottom left corner of the net. Boyle County goalkeeper Jack Little guessed the right direction, but was just short of the ball, only getting a tip on it.

Lincoln got their second goal of the night after Little gave away the ball in the back, leading to an empty net for a Patriot forward to make it 3-2 in the dying seconds.

Ferrell shared his thoughts after the game. “It was nice to get a win on senior night against a district opponent. I think we could have done a little better in the second half, but we were still able to pull out the win.

“It felt great being able to score today. It really made my senior night just that much better.”

Coach Jeremy Carlson for the Rebels was also happy with the win, especially for the seniors. “Good Match for our players yesterday against a strong district opponent. It was good to get our seniors and their parents a win on senior night before we turn our attention to our match against Mercer County on Saturday night.”
