The library of the new Boyle County Middle School building features lots of natural lighting and seating. It also has a collaboration area for group projects and discussions attached to it.
Pictured is an area for group work and collaboration. The funnels on the ceiling allow for sound to stay within individual groups. The room, however, is currently set up to adhere to social distancing guidelines.
The BCMS building has a dance studio. A bar for dancing will go across a wall of the room, and there is tape on the floor of the room to show students how to practice social distancing in the space.
The band room of BCMS is spacious and has lockers, not pictured, for students' instruments.
The gym for BCMS is pictured. Principal of the school Brian Wheeler said students will have physical education classes outside when possible for better social distancing. Wheeler said students will still be able to play sports and have games at the school but with guidelines in place.
The cafeteria of the BCMS will operate according to social distancing guidelines. Since tables from classrooms have wheels, they can also be brought into the cafeteria for additional seating for students to eat.
A language arts room in BCMS has tables and chairs already set up for social distancing. Wheeler said any rooms not currently set up for social distancing will be adjusted accordingly and extra chairs and other furniture will be put into storage. The language arts room also has couches where students can read.
Science classrooms in BCMS feature high tables, sinks and space for science experiments.
The theater at BCMS is currently under construction. Wheeler said it's not expected to be finished for several months.
The back of the BCMS building is under construction. Both the front and back of the building feature glass detailing and columns.
The new BCMS building is on Cunningham Way. It celebrated its ribbon cutting on Sept. 17.
The new Boyle County Middle School building will be ready for students to begin hybrid learning on Sept. 30, when students who have chosen to do in-person classes will return to school. The building celebrated a small ribbon cutting on Sept. 17. Principal Brian Wheeler, who has been principal since July 1 and was previously assistant principal, said the school is lucky to be spacious so students can socially distance due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and he said the percentage of students who are planning to come back to school for in-person classes currently continues to fluctuate, but right now the school is expecting the majority of the students to return.
