Danville man charged with Lexington murder

A Danville man has been charged with murder following a shooting that occurred outside of Fayette Mall in Lexington Thursday night.

Jessin A. Stateman, 19, of Denmark Drive, is accused of shooting 23-year-old Jermaine Barber of Lexington outside of the mall on Nicholasville Road around 8 p.m. According to a statement by the Fayette County Coroner’s office, Barber was transported from the scene of the shooting to the University of Kentucky Medical Center later that evening.

According to the police citation, Stateman committed murder when he was at that location “with the intent to cause death of another person” and “fired multiple shots from a pistol at the victim as he was walking away. The victim was struck and died from the gun fire.”

The citation also states that marijuana was involved in the incident.

Stateman is a 2019 graduate of Danville High School where he played on the football and basketball teams.
