Danville Independent Schools will transition to all virtual learning on Monday, Nov. 16 and continue through at least Wednesday, Nov. 24 due to the spread of COVID-19 in the community. Schools will be closed for Thanksgiving break on Nov. 25 and 26.

The district has had zero spread in the schools and has been operating under a hybrid A/B model since Oct. 12, according to a post from Superintendent Dr. Tammy McDonald on the schools’ Facebook page. However, due to “increased quarantine numbers as a result of exposure outside our schools,” the district will be going to all virtual learning starting next week.

The letter stated, “Working with the Boyle County Health Department, we will continue to monitor the progression of COVID-19 and reassess this decision on Nov. 24. This situation is complex. It changes daily, sometimes hourly. Our goal is to keep everyone — students, staff, families and community — safe, and with as little disruption as possible. At times, this goal is in complete opposition to minimizing disruptions.”

McDonald wrote, “We recognize this is an additional challenge during already challenging days. We always strive to provide as much advance notice as we possibly can. In the current environment, that may be very short. We must all continue to stay ready for change this school year and the potential quick turnaround that public health conditions may warrant.”
