Here is a closer look at some of these activities:

Crafting for Keeps: Handmade Cards

Each month the library offers a craft kit that adults can take and create in the comfort of their own homes with the help of an instructional video. This month the library teamed up with the Art Center of the Bluegrass to help spread some holiday cheer with “Handmade Cards.”

The craft kit contains four blank cards, a selection of festive papers, and other holiday accessories. Patrons can pick up a free kit from the library or from the Art Center while supplies last. In the instructional video, Visual Arts Director Brandon Long introduces the elements of good visual composition when designing a card, and artist Ashley Feather gives a quick demonstration on how to incorporate lettering techniques into a design.

The video is available on the library’s YouTube channel, BoylePubLib.org/youtube. Registration is not required, but supplies are limited. This craft is recommended for ages 18 and up.

Christmas
Crafts & More

Children’s Services Librarian Libby McWhorter is putting together Christmas Crafts & More grab bags with two Christmas-themed crafts, a snack to make, and a STEM activity. Video of instructions to make everything included in the grab bag will premiere on the library’s Children’s Programming Facebook page and YouTube.

Christmas Crafts & More is recommended for ages 5-8. Supplies for this craft are limited. Those interested in participating must call the library at (859) 238-7323 to register to reserve a kit by Saturday, Dec. 5 before 5 p.m. Patrons who register by the deadline may pick up their kits at the library from Monday-Wednesday, Dec. 7-9.

Outdoor
Scavenger Hunt

Families can enjoy spending time outside participating in the library’s holiday-themed Outdoor Scavenger Hunt. Items to be on the lookout for include an elf, a menorah, a wreath, a snowman, and Santa.

The scavenger hunt form can be picked up in the Children’s department or downloaded from the library’s website at BoylePubLib.org/Outdoor-Scavenger-Hunt. Once participants find all the items, they can submit the form on the website or bring it in on their next visit to the library. All entries will be entered in a prize drawing for a new book.

Letters to Santa

Each year the library sets out the special North Pole mailbox for letters to Santa. All youth are invited to drop off a letter to Santa in the mailbox in the lobby. Letters dropped off by Dec. 19 can expect a response from Santa by Christmas. (To receive a mailed response, a return address must be included).

Ornament Make
and Take

Help decorate the library Christmas tree. All youth (ages birth -18) are invited to pick up an ornament kit at the Tree Desk from Dec. 1-23, then return the decorated ornament to library staff for it to be added to the tree in the Children’s Library.

Information about these and all upcoming events can be found online at BoylePubLib.org. The library is open Monday-Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. In addition, free WiFi is available in the library parking lot 24/7. Chat with library staff using the live chat service on the library’s website or by texting (859) 545-8398.
