Children and their families are invited to join Santa and his helpers from the library’s youth services department as they read some of their favorite holiday stories each evening at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, Dec. 19 at 7: p.m., Santa will kick off the week-long series with one of his favorite stories. Children’s Librarian Libby McWhorter will be reading on Sunday evening, followed by Youth Services Assistant Amber Wesley, Youth Services Librarian Kinsey Hisle, and Young Adult Services Librarian B Smith. On Christmas Eve, Santa will be back to read The Night Before Christmas.

“We wanted to do a week of Christmas stories leading up to Christmas, similar to how we did a week of Scary Stories leading up to Halloween in October,” said Hisle. “There are so many great holiday stories out there and these kinds of themed reading weeks are the perfect way to get into the holiday spirit while building early literacy skills. The holidays this fall and winter look different than what we are all used to so we hope this extra special week of stories will help make a fun new tradition to share around holidays.”

All holiday storytime videos will be posted to the Boyle County Public Library Children’s Programming Facebook Page and the library’s YouTube channel. The videos will only be available until the end of December.

Additional holiday activities at the library include a recipe swap forum, Letters to Santa, ornament decorating, and an outdoor scavenger hunt. Information about these and all upcoming events can be found online at BoylePubLib.org.

“Our usual Christmas program traditions may have changed but we came up with new safe ways for families to still decorate ornaments for our tree, write a letter to Santa, and get a free holiday photo that we are excited about,” said Hisle. “Seeing families come into the building dressed in their holiday best to take a photo by our backdrops brings library staff a lot of joy because we love using our space and resources in new ways to help our community.”

The library is open Monday-Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., however the building will be closed Dec. 24-26 for the Christmas holiday. Access to the library’s online collection is always available via BoylePubLib.org/emedia. Free WiFi is available in the library parking lot 24/7. Chat with library staff during operating hours using the live chat service on the library’s website or by texting (859)-545-8398.
