The Boyle County Public Library offers a variety of ways for patrons to explore its collection. Weekly book recommendations and monthly book clubs are just two avenues for doing so. Here is a closer look at a few of the programs the library is hosting to help connect patrons with some of the treasures available at the library:

Book Bites with Kinsey

Tweens looking for something new to read can tune into Book Bites on Mondays at 4:00 PM. Each week Youth Services Librarian Kinsey Hisle recommends a selection of books for tweens from the library’s collection. Books include popular genres, new releases, and more. Each new episode premieres on the Children’s Programming Facebook page. The full playlist of videos in the series can be found on the library’s YouTube channel. Every book featured in the video can be checked out from the library, requested using Curbside Pickup service, or downloaded from the library’s digital collections using Libby or hoopla apps.

Tween LibCrates

Tween LibCrates premieres on the 4th Monday of the month (in place of the weekly Book Bites program). The theme for February is “Mystery” and the book of the month is The Blackthorn Key by Kevin Sands. Crates are available for pick up at the beginning of each month in the children’s department, while supplies last. Each crate is designed for ages 9-13 and includes a free book, craft, snack, prize, and discussion questions. No registration required.

Teen LibCrates Talk

Teens, ages 13-18, are invited to join a weekly book discussion via Instagram Live @boylepublibteens on Wednesdays at 4 p.m. Similar to Tween LibCrates, the teen program also features a crate with a free book, snacks, and other goodies. This month the book selection is The Field Guide to the North American Teenager by Ben Philippe. Supplies are limited, so teens interested in participating should contact the library regarding crate availability.

Virtual Book Club for Adults

The library will host a monthly book club and discussion over a virtual medium on Thursday, Feb. 18 at 6:30 p.m. The book selection for this month is The Man in the High Castle by Philip K. Dick. Several copies of the book for this discussion are available from the library’s physical book collection. Discussions will be held on the Boyle County Public Library Discord Server. Stories from the Archive

Every library, big and small, has its secrets. In this monthly program, Reference Assistant Steve Ellis delves into some of the historical documents and treasures held in the library’s special collection. Libraries are full of stories – some waiting to be opened on shelves, while others hang on walls with bright colors and brush strokes that breathe life into canvas. In this month’s segment, “Every Picture Tells a Story,” Ellis will share the story of Harold LaRue, a local artist who enriched the community both with his own art and his generosity in donating art books to the library’s collection. This month’s segment will premiere on Thursday, Feb. 11 at 4 p.m. All “Stories from the Archive” videos are available on the library’s YouTube channel.
