Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center (EMRMC) is pleased to recognize and honor one of its nurses for her extraordinary patient care. Alexiss Baker, LPN, a nurse in the Medical/Surgical Unit at EMRMC, was one of many nurses nominated for the DAISY Award. A resident of Mercer County, Alexiss has been caring for patients at EMRMC for seven months.

She was nominated by a patient. The patient said, “Alexiss is one of the sweetest young ladies that I have ever had the pleasure of having had care for me at EMRMC. Her care and compassion abounds and is genuine. She is proficient with everything that she did for me – administering my meds, she explained what she was giving me.

“If I asked for pain medicine or nausea medicine, she was right on it. When I had an issue with my antibiotic causing me to itch, she was concerned and immediately dropped the rate down to help it. She cleaned my wound and applied my dressing efficiently.

“She had a student with her and asked me if it was OK if she was in there to help with my care. She explained things to her.

When she was giving me my discharge papers, she explained them thoroughly. Alexiss is a strong, Christian young lady who is a tremendous asset to the nursing staff. More than anything, she asked me was it OK if she could pray for me when she saw that I was upset. Alexiss is not a Daisy, she is a rose. And she is going to be a wonderful nurse for many years.”
