There are some important legislations held up in the Committee on Committees and not assigned for study by the House Committee on Elections in the current Kentucky House of Representatives. They all deal with the fairness of future elections, an important bipartisan issue and vital to the health of our democracy.

One is House Bill 72 which allows the convenience of the voter as a reason for an absentee ballot. Another is House Bill 182 which allows same day voter registration and makes a driver’s license application simultaneously a voter registration form. House Bill 232 would restore voting rights to people with a felon conviction after they have completed their prison time, including probation or parole time.

Most important of all is House Bill 23 which would establish the Advisory Redistricting Commission to draft redistricting plans based on the recent U.S. census in order to insure elections which show no bias to any one party or bias to a current incumbent official.
