The donation of milk, snack sticks plus a check for $2,000 was possible thanks to NutraBlend, one of Burkmann Nutrition’s ingredient suppliers. NutraBlend supports Backpack Kids programs based on a manufacturers purchases, similar to a rewards program.

Burkmann Nutrition is proud to support the youth of our entire community. “We see first-hand every day how quality nutrition impacts performance in the animal world and feel that the same is absolutely true for kids,” said Brent Williams, Director of Technical Service for Burkmann Nutrition.

Backpack Kids is a cumulative effort of First Christian Church, Indian Hills Christian Church, Trinity Episcopal Church, Junction City Baptist Church and Danville Christian Academy. They work with both Danville and Boyle County schools to ensure sacks of food are supplied to kids in need. The bags are packed each week by volunteers from the participating churches.

Backpack kids supports 220 children a week and despite changes in how many volunteers could pack at a time and taking other necessary precautions, the COVID-19 pandemic did not slow them down one bit.

The pandemic did force them to cancel their largest fundraiser of the year, the Jennie Carol 5K that is usually held in August. Thankfully donations have allowed them to continue to meet their monthly goals and continue to provide much needed food to area kids.

If you would like to support the Backpack Kids effort you can do so by mailing donations to  Backpack kids, P.O. Box 208 Danville KY 40422.
