The accreditation, in collaboration with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, focuses on the pre-surgical orthopedic consultation to the intraoperative, hospitalization or ambulatory surgical center admission, rehabilitation activities, and follow-up visit with the orthopedic surgeon.

Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center underwent a rigorous evaluation in December 2020. During the evaluation, a Joint Commission reviewer evaluated compliance with related certification standards including clinical guidelines and outcomes of care based on the surveyor’s review.  Joint Commission standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients.

“Hip and knee replacement and spine surgery accreditation recognizes health care organizations committed to fostering continuous quality improvement in patient safety and quality of care,” says Mark Pelletier, RN, MS, chief operating officer, Accreditation and Certification Operations, and chief nursing executive, The Joint Commission. “We commend EMRMC for using certification to reduce variation in its clinical processes and to strengthen its program structure and management framework for orthopedic patients.”

“Achieving re-accreditation for our Total Hip, Total Knee and Spine programs is a reflection of the wonderful commitment of the surgeons and our OrthoSpineCenter Associates have in providing excellent care to our patients,” says Amy Feeback, OrthoSpineCenter director at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. “Our patients can trust that they will receive evidence-based, quality care by highly trained staff during their stay.”
