Kim Coulter, RN, a nurse at Ephraim McDowell Commonwealth Cancer Center, and Kelly Vinton, RN, a medical surgical nurse at Ephraim McDowell James B. Haggin Hospital, have been honored with DAISY Awards for their extraordinary patient care.

Coulter is resident of Washington County and has been caring for patients at EMCCC for 13 years.

She was nominated by a patient’s wife that said, “My husband is being treated for colorectal cancer. You can plan for a lot of things but cancer isn’t one of them. Kim taught us how to do his chemo meds at home, being very detailed and knowledgeable with any questions we had. This is very stressful for him and for myself, she was kind and compassionate and laughed with us and put us at ease. She always returns my calls when I have questions regarding my husband’s care and even when I’ve forgotten a step, let me know it was OK and we had this and they had our backs. She’s so pleasant to speak with and we appreciate her so much.”

Vinton is resident of Jessamine County and has been caring for patients for 22 years and has been with EMJBHH for the past year and a half.

She was nominated for the award by a patient who said, “Kelly has a caring nature. She took time to listen to me while I was hospitalized and did not seem to get hurried. She was organized, prepared and spent quality time with me, treating me as if I was her only patient. Kelly was confident in her skills and in turn gave me confidence in her. She is top notch and has found her calling for sure!”

Ephraim McDowell is proud to recognize nurses with the DAISY Award, a national program that honors the compassionate care and clinical excellence that nurses bring to their patients every day.  Nomination forms for the DAISY Award are available at various locations throughout Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital and Ephraim McDowell James B. Haggin Hospital and other Ephraim McDowell facilities.
