Crafting for Keeps: “Mixed Media Flowers”

Each month the library offers a craft kit that adults can take and create in the comfort of their homes with the help of an instructional video. The craft for April is “Mixed Media Flowers.” Each kit includes a mat board, Model Magic clay, paint, and brushes. Kits may be picked up from the Boyle County Public Library starting April 5 — one kit per household, while supplies last. The special video tutorial is produced by the Art Center of the Bluegrass and can be viewed at boylepublib.org/youtube. The craft is recommended for ages 18 and up. (This program is a regional partnership between the Art Center of the Bluegrass, the Lincoln County Public Library, the Mercer County Public Library, and the Boyle County Public Library.)

Springtime Crafts & More

Children’s Services Librarian Libby McWhorter is putting together Springtime Crafts & More grab bags featuring spring-themed crafts, a snack to make, and a STEM activity. A video of instructions on how to make everything included in the grab bag will premiere on the library’s Children’s Programming Facebook page and YouTube channel. Supplies for this craft are limited. Those interested in participating must call the library at (859) 238-7323 to register to reserve a bag by Friday, April 16 before 5:30 p.m. Patrons who register by the deadline may pick up their kits at the library from Tuesday-Wednesday, April 20-21. This activity is recommended for ages 5-8.

Weekly Take & Make Activities for Youth:

• KidStir

On Tuesdays at 4 p.m., children can make a tasty new treat at home as they follow along with an instructional video. Treats this month include Mini Monkey Bread, Mini Fruit Pizza, and Wookie Cookies. Those who are interested in participating will need to register each week by calling the library by the Monday of that week to pick up the free kit on Tuesday. Supplies are limited. This event is for ages 5-8.

• Teen Take & Make

Teens can pick up a fun DIY project kit they can make at home, with the help of a how-to tutorial video. Throughout the month of April, teens can choose from a selection of different kits, while supplies last. Video tutorials for each kit can be found on the library’s YouTube channel. This activity is for ages 13-18.

• Tween DIY

Each Friday at 4 p.m. the library hosts a virtual DIY program for tweens showing them how to make fun and useful items. This month’s projects include a diffuser necklace, fingerprint magnets, and flower pens. Participants can pick up a free kit of supplies from the library then follow along with the instructional video at home. Supplies are limited and are given out on a first come basis. Kits may be picked up at the Tree Desk in the Children’s Library weekly Saturday-Thursday prior to the video premiere. This activity is for ages 9-13.

The library is open Monday-Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. – 5: p.m. In addition, free WiFi is available in the library parking lot 24/7.
