Joseph Michael Carpenter

1948 – 2021

Joseph Michael Carpenter, 73, passed away Wednesday April 7, 2021. Joe was born in Boyle County, Kentucky on March 6, 1948 and was one of 13 children of the late Mitchell and Florene Reynolds Carpenter, Sr. Joe was the loving husband of 33 years to Mary Hays Carpenter.

Joe retired from Honeywell where he worked for 34 years and was a member of Mt. Freeman Baptist Church in Junction City. Joe, along with his brothers, enjoyed being a Civil War Reenactor and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed making knives, puttering in his garage and liked to go camping. He dearly loved spending time with his grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to Mary, his wife, Joe is survived by his mother-in-law, Ruth Hays, two sons, Scott (Robyn) Carpenter, Tim (Angie Baker) Carpenter, seven grandchildren, Nicole (Nate) Morris, Heather Carpenter, Jessica Downs, Megan (Josh) Miller, Devin Carpenter, Peyton Carpenter, Lewis Curtis, four great-grandchildren, Jason Miller, Oakland Faith Carpenter, Addilynn and Braylyn Coleman, siblings, Mitchell (Judy) Carpenter, Jr., Verril Carpenter, Doris Gibson, Inez Grigsby, a sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Carpenter; also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and other in-laws.

Along with his parents, Joe was preceded in death by three infant siblings and siblings, Kamos, Tilden, Shelton, Lonnie Carpenter, and Jewel Vaught Long.

The funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Monday April 12, 2021 at Walden Funeral Home Perryville with Pastor Curtis Brock and Bro. Dean Carpenter officiating burial will follow in Bethlehem Church Cemetery in Washington County. Visitation will be 5 – 8:00 p.m., Sunday April 11, 2021 at Walden Funeral Home.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Josh Miller, Nate Morris, Bruce King, Matthew Vaught, Jeremy Bottom, and Lewis Curtis.

Joe, as an avid hunter, regularly wore camouflage clothing; the family has requested that everyone where some article of camouflage clothing to Joe’s funeral.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions to Heritage Hospice.
Covid guidelines of 60% capacity and the requirement of wearing masks and maintaining social distancing is required while in the funeral home and at the committal service.
