The Boyle County Public Library provides a variety of ways for patrons to get involved and experience all the library has to offer. Throughout the pandemic the library has offered numerous fun, free activities including hands-on DIY craft projects, cooking kits, virtual Dungeons & Dragons, virtual book clubs, and so much more.

As spring turns into summer, the library staff is winding down their regularly scheduled events to prepare for the activity-packed, all-ages summer reading program, which begins on June 1st. Here is a look at some of the remaining virtual programs for teens and tweens this spring:

• First 4 Fridays

On Friday, April 30 and Friday, May 7 at 4 p.m. the library will host First 4 Fridays where patrons can watch an exclusive reading of the first four pages of a new Young Adult novel, read by Young Adult Services Librarian Bretton Smith. The live readings, as well as previous installments, can be watched on the library’s teen Instagram page @boylepublibteens.

• Book Bites with Kinsey

Tweens looking for something new to read can tune into Book Bites on Monday, May 3 at 4 p.m. Youth Services Librarian Kinsey Hisle will recommend a selection of books for tweens from the library’s collection. Books include popular genres, new releases, and more. This episode will premiere on the Children’s Programming Facebook page. The full playlist of videos in the series can be found on the library’s YouTube channel. Every book featured in the video can be checked out from the library, requested using Curbside Pickup service, or downloaded from the library’s digital collections using Libby or hoopla apps.

• Teen LibCrates Talk

On Wednesday, May 5 at 4: pm. teens are invited to join a weekly book discussion via Instagram Live @boylepublibteens. This week Bretton Smith will wrap up the discussion on the April book selection A Thousand Beginnings and Endings by Erin Bowman. Teen LibCrates will return in June with a new YA book selection.

• Teen Dungeons & Dragons

Virtual adventurers can meet online to play the popular role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons. This month Virtual Teen D&D will be held on Saturday, May 8 at 2 p.m. The two-hour session will be run via two web-based services: Roll20.net and Discordapp.com. In order to play, a reliable internet connection, computer, and headset/microphone are required. To join the game email bsmith@boylepublib.org. This event is for ages 13-18.
