Bravo Kids! music theater camp was a success

The Gravely Hall Performing Arts Center was happy to host Bravo Kids! Music Theatre Camp May 24-29. This arts education collaboration has existed for the past five years, but given the challenges posed by the pandemic since March of 2020, it was special to have this in-person arts education opportunity again.
This year’s camp, which included students third grade through graduating seniors, focused on singing and dancing. Students worked on solos and group pieces under the capable guidance of choreographer/director, and DHS alumnus, Evelyn Lackney and vocal music director Frieda Gebert.
The students explored a variety of themes including friendship, making dreams come true, making the most of life, and commitment to a cause. Students found fun and friendship in the daily rehearsal routines and were excited to explore dance and music.
During the week we continued to observe COVID protocols including masking in the school and smaller group size instruction. On Saturday, May 29 the end of camp was celebrated with two performances for family and friends.
“Our community partnerships are at the heart of our arts education work,” said Jane Dewey, Danville Independent Schools District Director of Arts Education and “Bravo Kids! founder and director, Jean Crawford Griffin who believes in making the arts accessible to all students.
The Danville Independent Schools and the Gravely Hall Performing Arts Center will announce next year’s visual and performing arts education programming at the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year.
