Berdine McGuffey Reed

1931 – 2021

Berdine McGuffey Reed, 89, of Stanford, KY passed away on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at Stanford Care and Rehabilitation. Born on July 24, 1931 in Highland, KY to the late William “Bill” McGuffey and Roberta “Berdie” Burton McGuffey. She was the widow to the late Walter Reed. She was a member of Mt. Moriah Christian Church in Highland, KY. She started her career as a nurse for 17 years at Ft. Logan Hospital followed by working 22 years as secretary at Lincoln County High School.

Survivors include one son, Joe Reed of Stanford, KY; one step-daughter, Dixie Lee Reed of Lexington, KY; two grandsons, Christopher Reed and Carl James “C.J.” Reed; and one great-granddaughter, Lily Reed and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Reed; three brothers, Norman McGuffey, Billy Joe McGuffey and Richard McGuffey; and two sisters, Irene Tucker and Ruth Thompson.

A one-day service has been scheduled for Friday, June 18, 2021 at Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford, KY. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with the funeral service starting at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Moriah Christian Church Cemetery in Highland, KY.
