Ionut Moga, a rising sophomore at Centre College, will be bringing a piece of Romania to Boyle County.

He will be hosting an event through CentreWorks’ PURSUIT program, which aims to teach Boyle and the other counties in the seven-county area CentreWorks works with about global experiences. Moga is from Romania — he moved to the U.S. when he was about 5 years old — and said he wants to show people in the community that though Romania is not an affluent country, people there can still achieve success in various areas of life.

His Zoom presentation is from 2-3 p.m. on July 24 and will include his personal stories about Romania and interviews with several Romanians. Moga is currently visiting Romania for the summer and has arranged interviews with people including a politician, a doctor who worked with COVID-19 patients and a businessman.

“You will be hearing interviews with people from Romania who have been successful in several different fields of life, and what I want to portray with this is that it’s important to see that even in a more poor country like Romania, it’s still very possible for people to have success because of their hard work and dedication,” he said.

Moga currently lives in Lexington. Before that, he lived in Iowa City, Iowa.

He found people to interview for the program through mutual connections. He said the program will also focus on firsthand experiences related to Romania, the concept of unity and possibly cultural elements as well. It will also include a question and answer session.

“The two biggest themes that I’ve discovered with all of the research are that any community can have success if they set forward to it, and work toward it, and that unity is also another path to success,” Moga said.
