Danville-Boyle County Economic Development Partnership chair Alan Turbyfill said because the continuance of the organization’s work is vital to the community, it’s already in the process of forming a search committee to fill the position of president and CEO left by Jody Lassiter because he’s taking another position with CSX Transportation.

“This organization does important work for the community and has a responsibility to both its public and private partners to continue that work to the best of our ability,” Turbyfill said. “We will also take advantage of this time of transition to reflect on our past accomplishments and challenges to ensure we move forward as a stronger organization.”

Turbyfill added, “I am a firm believer in the private/public partnership structure of the EDP.  Bringing all interested parties together to combine resources, share ideas, and work together for the benefit of the community has proven to be the best way for small communities to conduct their economic development efforts.”

“It is not surprising that with such a broad range of organizations represented that sometimes there are differences of opinion. There is nothing wrong with that as long as all parties are committed to the shared goal of improving the quality of life for every citizen of Boyle County. Partnerships are hard work. In the case of the EDP, that work is worth it and I believe we will continue to work together for the benefit of the community we all care so much about.”

Turbill also said the Economic Development Authority partnership between the city and county that’s being discussed will also be important for economic growth.

“The EDA is a legal structure that gives the city and/or county the ability to purchase and develop property.  It is a powerful economic development tool that can be of great benefit to our community. If organized appropriately, it will enhance the efforts of the EDP and all it’s partners.”
