Danville has been forced to cancel a second straight football game due to COVID-19 protocols.

The announcement that the Admirals would not play their scheduled game Friday at Mercer County was made Thursday morning by the school district via Twitter.

A short time later, Mercer announced on Twitter that it would be looking for a new opponent for this week.

So far, only seven other games scheduled for this week are listed as canceled on the KHSAA online scoreboard – a significant drop from the first three weeks of the season – and Mercer has four potential opponents: Daviess County, Fairview, Oldham County and Woodford County.

Danville’s next scheduled game is Sept. 17 against Atherton at Admiral Stadium. The Admirals have an open date Sept. 24, and could add a game to that week.

Meanwhile, Henderson County announced today that kickoff time for its game Friday with Boyle County has been moved up to 8 p.m.
