Activities continue at the library

The Boyle County Public Library provides a variety of ways for patrons to get involved and experience all the library has to offer. The library offers numerous in-person programs for teens and adults, take-and-make activity kits for youth, outdoor preschool storytime, and the Dinosaur Discovery exhibit. Here is a closer look at some of the library’s upcoming activities:

Tween DIY

On Friday, Sept. 24, tweens can create a dinosaur fossil using dough and mini dinos. Pick up a kit of supplies and then watch tween librarian Kinsey Hisle in the accompanying video to see how to knead together a special fossil dough mixture to then create lasting impressions of dinosaur prints. Available while supplies last. (Ages 9-13)

Chess in the Park

On Saturday, Sept. 25 from 2-4 p.m., visit the library for a relaxing day of a classic strategy game outdoors. This event will be held in the Library Park. Masks are strongly encouraged. (Ages 18+)

Adult D&D

The library offers a Dungeons & Dragons club for adults that meets at the library on the second and fourth Sundays of the month. Adults can join the next session on Sunday, Sept. 26 at noon or 4:30 p.m. No experience is necessary, but registration is required to participate. To register, sign up at the library or email library@boylepublib.org. Masks are required. (Ages 18+)

KidStir

On Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 4 p.m., children can make a new treat at home as they follow along with our instructional video. Kits will be available for pickup starting Tuesday morning (while supplies last). You can also pick up a kit using our Curbside Pickup service. Call the library at 859-238-7323 starting the day the kits are available to ask for a kit using curbside pickup and it will be set out in the rotunda for you. The video will premiere on the library’s YouTube channel. No registration required. (Ages 5-8)

Teen LibCrates Wrap-up

On Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 6 p.m. Young Adult Services Librarian Bretton Smith will lead the wrap-up discussion of the book “A Song Below Water” by Bethany C. Morrow. Teens can share their thoughts about the book at this in-person discussion. This event will be held on the fifth level of the library. Masks are required. (Ages 13-18)

Tween LibCrates Wrap-up

On Thursday, Sept. 30 at 4:30 p.m. Youth Services Librarian Kinsey Hisle will lead themed activities and a wrap-up discussion of the graphic novel The Tea Dragon Society by Katie O’Neill.  This in-person event will be held on the fifth level of the library. Masks are required. (Ages 9-13)

Fall Break Fun Kit

Beginning Oct. 1, the library will offer Fall Break Fun Kits, providing fun activities for youth to do at home. Each kit contains three fall-themed crafts with all supplies included. Pick up a kit, then follow along to watch our librarians demonstrate how to make the crafts in a video on the library’s YouTube channel. Crafts can be done by most youth ages. The free kits will be available starting Friday, Oct. 1, while supplies last. Kits may be picked up in-person or by using our Curbside Pickup service. Call the library at 859-238-7323 starting Oct. 1 to ask for a kit using curbside pickup and it will be set out in the rotunda for you.

The library is open Monday-Friday, 9:30 a.m – 5:30 p.m. with extended hours on Tuesday and Thursday evenings until 8 p.m., and open Saturdays from 10 a.m to 5 p.m. In addition, free WiFi is available in the library parking lot 24/7.
