Last year, the Boyle County Rebels boys soccer team won the 12th region tournament with a 1-0 upset victory over the senior-laden West Jessamine Colts, but this year the matchup would look a lot different.

The Colts lost 18 seniors last year, so this new team featured many new faces and plenty of underclassmen, but West still had a few key players from their team last year including senior Nash Woosley, senior Micah Tackett, and junior Jack Satterwhite.

The Rebels on the other hand have almost the same team from last year and are on a 5 game win streak with 0 goals conceded during the streak.

The beginning of the game was extremely heated. Both the Rebels and the Colts clearly wanted this one and this tone would continue throughout.

Boyle dominated the ball, holding most of the possession, but West had all the tools to spring a dangerous counterattack.

Boyle drew first blood with senior Judson Perry smashing home a shot into the top left corner of the net. 1-0 Boyle.

The rest of the half was played in West Jessamine’s half with Boyle trying to find a second one before the break, but they were unsuccessful and would go into the second half up 1-0.

The second half continued just as the first half had ended, with Boyle’s possession. The Rebels kept the ball and attacked through the feet of junior Tristan Compton who expertly found the space in front of the West defenders.

Sophomore Matthew Britt doubled the lead with a left-footed volley off of a corner by sophomore Fain Hackney. 2-0 Boyle.

Junior Brock Keller capped off the win with a tidy finish off of a Compton cross into the bottom left corner of the net. 3-0 Boyle.

This win cements the Rebels as the favorite in the upcoming 12th region tournament. The Rebels play next at Berea on Saturday and will round out the season with games against Madison Southern and Lafayette on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively.
