Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill is swinging into the spookiest time of year with a full lineup of Halloween inspired happenings. The end of October is full of family-friendly experiences that will make lasting memories of fall-time fun.

Celebrate the Season

• Trick or Treat – Bring the kids for a fun evening along the Village road gathering treats (and maybe even a trick or two)! Take a hayride, enjoy live music, food and drink, and warm up by the bonfires. Make a kids’ craft in-between candy stops and take part in our selfie station costume contest. Oct. 22-23 from 4:30-7 p.m., tickets are $5 for ages 3 and up and free for ages 2 and under, and pre-registration is available online at shakervillageky.org/event-calendar.

Trick-or-treat

• BOO! Cruise – Make waves at this fun Halloween party on the Kentucky River. Wear a costume for the costume contest, hear a spooky story, play games and enjoy light refreshments and decorations on this family-friendly cruise. Saturday, Oct. 30 at  noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., tickets are $15 for ages 13 and up, $10 for ages 6-12 and $5  for ages 5 and under.

• Kiwanis Halloween 5K at Shaker Village — Put on your running shoes and tackle the rolling landscape of Shaker Village for this Halloween-themed run/walk event that supports the Harrodsburg Kiwanis Club. Runners are encouraged to wear (and run in!) costumes for our costume contest, and additional awards will be given to the top male and female runners by age groups. Kids will love our one Mile “Wizard Chase” around  the Historic Centre of the Village, that begins at 10:30 a.m. Participants in both races will receive a complimentary individual admission to Shaker Village. Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30, and pre-registration is available online at shakervillageky.org/event-calendar.

• Techniques of Food Preservation Dinner — Join us for a fun and educational dinner in our Fresh Food Adventure series prepared by Chef Amber Hokams that demonstrates the different techniques of food preservation. During this four-course dinner you will experience food prepared using nine different methods of preservation including pickling, salt preservation, sugaring, fermentation, canning, smoking, curing, dehydrating and fat preservation. Saturday, Oct. 30 at 6:30 p.m., $89 per person, purchase tickets online at shakervillageky.org/event-calendar.

• Hayrides — Hop on a hayride and discover how the Shakers’ beliefs defined their community. Every Friday and Saturday, through Oct. 30 at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $5 for ages 6 and up and free for children under 5.

• Riverboat Rides — Cruise along the Kentucky River on a one-hour narrated tour describing the historical importance of the river to the Shakers. Rides depart at 2 p.m. and  4 p.m. every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, and 2 p.m., 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. every Friday and Saturday through October 30. Tickets are $10 for ages 13 and up, $5 for ages 6-12 and free for children under 5.
