Library hosts Thanksgiving craft activities and board game events

The Boyle County Public Library offers numerous free activities for patrons of all ages. The library is currently hosting Dinosaur Discovery, an exhibit featuring over 120 fossils and castings from Dr. John Hankla’s curated collection. More information about the exhibit, including a virtual tour, can be found at BoylePubLib.org/Dinosaurs. In addition to the exhibit, library patrons can also enjoy interactive activities including crafting projects, board games, plus a family movie night later in the month. Here is a closer look at some of the upcoming events at the library:

Jurassic Escape!
On Saturday, November 13 at 2:00 PM, teens and tweens are invited to race against the clock to escape from the Jurassic Garden before the dinosaurs attack. This event will be held in the Reading Garden at the library. Masks are required. In the case of inclement weather, a virtual escape room will be made available. (Ages 9-18)

Board Games Club for Adults
The library will pull out its collection of board games on Saturday, November 13 from 5:00-8:00 PM. Adults are enouraged to bring a friend and try out some new games or play old favorites. The library has games for all levels of players and staff eager to show you how to play. This after-hours event will be held in the Community Room at the library. Masks are required. (Ages 18+)

Adult D&D
Dungeons & Dragons is often called the greatest role-playing game of all time. The library offers a D&D club for adults that meets at the library on the second and fourth Sundays of the month. Adults can join a session on Sunday, November 14 at noon or 4:30 PM. No experience is necessary, but registration is required. To register, sign up at the library or email library@boylepublib.org. Masks are required. (Ages 18+)

Kids Crafts & More
On Tuesday, November 16 the library will offer Thanksgiving-themed Crafts & More kits for kids to complete from home while following along to a video of Ms. Libby on the library’s YouTube channel. Kits can be picked up starting November 16 while supplies last. Each bag will have a craft, snack, and STEM project. Kits are also available via Curbside pickup. Call the library at 859-238-7323 starting the day the kits are available to ask for a kit using curbside pickup and it will be set out in the rotunda for you. (Ages 3-8)

Thankful Rocks
Patrons of all ages are invited to design and paint rocks to spread messages of thankfulness. Paint rocks and then write what you are thankful for on your creation. Keep your rocks or pass them along to show gratitude to others. This event will be held in the Community Room on Thursday, November 16 from 4:30-6:30 PM. Room capacity will be limited due to social distancing. Masks are required. (All ages/Family)

Crafting for Keeps
At this program series you will be guided through the process of making a craft that you get to keep. On Tuesday, November 16 at 6:00 PM we will be making Harvest Centerpieces, a lovely piece of fall décor for your home. This event will be held in the Community Room. Masks are required. Extra supplies will be made into kits that will be available in the library lobby while supplies last. (Ages 18+)

Third Thursday AM Book Club
The Third Thursday AM Book Club continues in-person this month. In November the club will be reading A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith. The book discussion will be held in the Community Room on Thursday, November 18 at 10:30 AM. Masks are required. (Ages 18+)

Magic: The Gathering
On Thursday, November 18 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, the library will host a Magic: The Gathering (MTG) event. MTG is a fun, fast-paced strategy card game from Wizards of the Coast. This event will be held in the Community Room at the library. Masks are required. (Ages 13+)

Authoring an Adventure
Learn some tips and tricks for getting started writing your own Dungeons and Dragons adventure. Hear from experienced Dungeon Masters on a variety of topics that will make your adventure stand out. This event will be held on Friday, November 19 from 5:30-7:30 PM in the Community Room. Masks are required. (Ages 13+)
