This week our featured pets are Piper and Bud, who came to the shelter as strays.

Piper is a young, medium-sized mixed-breed pup with an athletic, slender build; in fact, she could probably stand to put on a few pounds. Her brown coat has a splash of white on the chest, and it looks like the very tip of her paws were dipped in white paint! One gaze into her wide, innocent eyes, and you will want to snuggle this sweet girl and tell her she’ll never be alone again.

Piper is shy, submissive, and seems to be extremely intelligent, traits that make her an excellent candidate for training. Provide her with TLC, proper boundaries, and socialization, and Piper will reward you with a lifetime of loyal companionship. Are you the person who will help Piper blossom into the outgoing and confident dog she is meant to be?

At approximately three-and-a-half years old, Bud is about as Beagle-y as you can get: tricolored, with soft floppy ears, big brown eyes, and a kind nature. Like many of his breed, he’s playful and loving, with an even temperament.

Beagles are known for their tendency to talk – (a.k.a. howl!), and while some beagles vocalize out of boredom, others do so just for fun no matter how active they are.

So far, Bud has been quiet and chill – he’s only bayed once or twice! If you’re in the market for a best friend, Bud will make an adorable addition to your life.

Sunday, Dec. 5, is International Volunteer Day, established to “celebrate the power and potential of volunteerism.”

DBCHS is blessed to have teams of dedicated volunteers for Happy Paws, our low-cost spay/neuter clinic, and Mutts With Manners, the dog training program at Northpoint. Other people behind the scenes share their time, talent, and treasure to improve our building and grounds, provide graphic design skills, foster animals, and more.
