Dear Editor,
Congratulations to The Presbyterian Church, Centre College, the City of Danville and all who contributed to the removal today of the Confederate statue on Main Street today. I know it has been a long time coming and I can only hope that this will lead to some valuable conversations and eventual healing. Danville has so much to offer as a place to live and thrive, but we also have a history that we must acknowledge. Celebrations like Soul of Second Street help to remind us that there were darker periods in our history and that present-day Danville still bears marks from another era. Removal of this statue removes one of those marks. Hurrah!
