Danville schools release COVID-19 updates and reminders for return to school

The Danville Independent Schools district is excited to see students return to school on Jan. 4. With the new semester, we would like to remind families of the following COVID-19 guidance and processes to help ensure the safety and health of our students, families, staff, and faculty.

  • Danville Schools uses the same color-coding system as what is displayed on the Kentucky Department of Public Health’s (KDPH) COVID-19 dashboard, available at this link. Boyle County’s current status is red based on the county incidence rate, and cases are on the rise. When the county is labeled as red, it is mandatory to wear a facial covering in all district schools and buildings at all times.
  • The Boyle County Health Department has updated its quarantine guidelines in accordance with the updated Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) quarantine guidelines. Because the district works in a coordinated effort with the BCHD to decide on isolation periods and other guidance, the district will be adopting the following CDC guidelines: For those who test positive for COVID-19, the isolation period has shortened from 10 days to five days, followed by five days of wearing a mask around others if asymptomatic.
The CDC has also updated the recommended quarantine period for those exposed to COVID-19. For unvaccinated individuals or those who have not received their booster shot and received their second mRNA dose more than six months ago or their Johnson and Johnson vaccine more than two months ago, the quarantine period is five days, followed by five days of strict mask use. Individuals who have received their booster shot do not need to quarantine following an exposure but should wear a mask for 10 days after exposure.  For all those exposed, best practice would include a COVID-19 test at day five after exposure. If symptoms occur, individuals should immediately quarantine until a test confirms they do not have COVID-19.
  • With the changes and uncertainty surrounding COVID-19, it’s understandable if some parents and caregivers prefer to have their children tested for COVID-19 before sending them back to school. We would like to remind families that Danville Schools has a partnership with Gravity Diagnostics, which has a COVID-19 drive-thru testing location right here in Danville. Please view contact information, instructions and hours of operation at the link provided.

Our COVID-19 guidance is subject to change. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this uncertain time.
