Barnes, Morse named to preseason All-America teams; Five locals among top 21 players in state

Two Danville baseball players have been named to Collegiate Baseball Newspaper’s Preseason All-America teams.

Shortstop Preston Barnes was named to the first team, and pitcher-catcher Brady Morse was named to the second team.

Barnes batted .376 with 16 home runs and 43 RBIs last season for Danville, which reached the state semifinals. Morse batted .434 with 12 home runs and 51 RBIs and was 8-1 on the mound with a 2.23 earned-run average.

Barnes and Morse are among five local players on the publication’s list of 21 top players in Kentucky. They join pitchers Brady Baxter and Logan Smothers of Danville and catcher Luke Gaffney of Boyle County.
