Wrestlers advance to KHSAA final rounds

Four local wrestlers advanced to the final rounds of the KHSAA State Wrestling Tournament by finishing among the top eight in their respective classes Saturday in a state first-round tournament at Georgetown.

Ethan Montgomery, Jackson Burger and Micah Thompson of Boyle County and Jerome Johnson of Danville moved on to the state finals this Saturday at George Rogers Clark in Winchester. They were among 10 wrestlers from the two schools competing at Great Crossing in one of two first-round meets.

Montgomery, a freshman, finished fourth in the 175-pound class, winning two matches on falls before losing on a decision in the semifinals. He went 3-2.

Boyle eighth-grader Jackson Burger was sixth and Danville junior Jerome Johnson was eighth at 157 pounds. Burger was 3-3 and Jackson was 2-3, and Burger defeated Johnson head to head in a consolation-round match.

Boyle eighth-grader Micah Thompson finished eighth at 106 pounds, going 2-3.

In other classes, Kaygen Roberts (113), Jaimen Carey (144) and Ethan Wheeler (165) of Boyle went 1-2. Richard Norris (150) and Holden McKnight (165) of Danville and Dakota Phillips (120) of Boyle went 0-2.
