Mary G. Hogsett Primary School will be hosting a Little Sibling Night to help families learn about resources available to them to support early childhood development.

The event is Thursday, March 10 from 5:30-7 p.m. and is open to children ages 5 and under not already enrolled in Danville Independent Schools.

Each family that attends will receive a kit with materials and resources designed for the age of their child. There will be community agencies at the event, including First Steps Early Intervention, the HANDS Program through the Boyle County Health Department and the Boyle County Public Library. Families will also be able to learn about Cradle School, and there will be preschool screening appointments. Snacks will be provided.

“Danville preschool teachers will be modeling for families how to use the materials to interact with their children and why this type of interaction is important in the child’s growth and development,” said Assistant Principal Pamela Hambrick.

Hambrick said Danville Schools is an active member of the Boyle-Mercer Community Early Childhood Council and that they work together as early childhood providers to share programming information and address needs in the community to support children from birth to 5 years old.

Additionally, the Danville Preschool Program is open to children ages 3 and 4 in the district who meet income guidelines, identify with a developmental need or pay tuition.

“Parents in the program have opportunities to work with teachers to learn how they can support their child at home and the importance of early learning, as well as participate in family engagement events at Hogsett,” Hambrick said.

“We hope the families of our future Danville students will have a clearer understanding of the important role early childhood development has on overall learning, as well as practical ways they can support their child at home,” she said. “In addition, we want families to have information about outside resources available to support them during this phase of their child’s development.”

Families can register for Little Siblings Night at this link. Though registration is not required, it will help ensure MGHPS has enough kits to give to families during the event.
