Library to host gardening activities; Writing groups, and interactive games also scheduled

The Boyle County Public Library offers free activities for patrons of all ages. The library is currently hosting Dinosaur Discovery, an exhibit featuring over 120 fossils and castings from Dr. John Hankla’s curated collection. Stop by to explore the free exhibit, which will remain on display through the end of March. Virtual tours and interactive school visits are also available. In addition to the exhibit, library patrons can also enjoy interactive activities such as crafting projects, games, and weekly storytimes. Here is a closer look at some of the upcoming events at the library:

Teen D&D
On Saturday, March 5 from 2:00-4:00 PM teens can play what some call the greatest role-playing game of all time. At this in-person event, players will venture through campaigns that will test their ability to work together and conquer foes in this tabletop adventure. Registration is required to play. Germination Station
If you are looking to start a garden or would like to foster some indoor plants, join us on Tuesday, March 8 or Saturday, March 12 from 1:00-3:00 PM for this seed germination program where you can take home your own germinating set of seeds to plant this spring. This event will be held outside the library entrance. (All ages welcome.)

Teen Writing Club
On Tuesdays in March, teens are invited to learn about various aspects of writing in this series. Join us to hone your writing skills in the areas of plot, theme, character creation, descriptive writing, and dialog. This writing workshop will be held weekly on Tuesdays at 4:00 PM in the Community Room. Join as you are able. Masks are required. (Ages 13-18)

Boyle County Writers
On Tuesday, March 8 at 5:30 PM, gather with fellow writers to practice your writing skills, share your work, and receive feedback from peers. Facilitated by local author Paul Stansbury, this event will be held in the Conference Room at the library. Masks are required. (Ages 18+)

Tween Take & Make
On Thursday, March 10, tweens can use DIY skills to make a “dinosaur poop” fossil. This program is a take and make kit only, so you can use more items you find in nature around your house to add to your poop fossils. Once you pick up your kit of supplies, watch librarian Kinsey in the accompanying video to see how to make an awesome, gross fossil of your own creation. While supplies last. (Ages 9-13)

Teen Advisory Board (TAB)
Teens are invited to share their thoughts about the Library at this new advisory group. On Thursday, March 10 at 4:00 PM, join us for fun activities and share your ideas on how to improve teen programs and services at the Library. This program will be held in the multipurpose room on the 5th level. (Ages 13-18)

Crafters Who Care
On Thursdays from 6:00-8:00 PM, join us in knitting and crocheting items for those in need. This knitting and crochet group welcomes current and new members to weekly crafting meetups at the library. Some materials provided. Beginners are welcome. This event will be held in the Reading Room. Masks are required. (Ages 13+)

Game On!
Teens are invited to play video games at the library on Fridays from 4:00-5:20 PM. Battle with friends in Super Smash Bros or race in Mario Kart 8. This event will be held on 5th Level of the library. Masks are required. (Ages 13-18)

Board Games Club for Adults
The library will pull out its collection of board games on Saturday, March 12 from 5:00-8:00 PM. Adults are encouraged to bring a friend and try out some new games or play old favorites. The library has games for all levels of players and staff eager to show you how to play. This after-hours event will be held in the Community Room at the library. Masks are required. (Ages 18+)

BOOK CLUBS for Tweens, Teens, and Adults
Third Thursday AM Book Club
In March the book club will be reading First: Sandra Day O’Connor by Evan Thomas. Copies of the book are available at the Circulation Desk, while supplies last. The book discussion will be held on Thursday, March 17 at 10:30 AM in the Community Room. (Ages 18+)

Teen LibCrates
Teen LibCrates may be picked up at the library any time in March, while supplies last. Each crate will include a free book and other goodies. The book for this month is The Montague Twins: The Witch’s Hand by Nathan page. An in-person discussion of the book will be held on March 29 to share thoughts about the book. (Ages 13-18)

Tween LibCrates
Pick up your Tween LibCrate any time in March, while supplies last. The book this month is We’re Not From Here by Geoff Rodkey. Each crate will include a free book, craft, snack, and prize. Join the in-person wrap-up discussion on March 31 to share your reactions and do themed activities. (Ages 9-13)

Free Tax Prep
The Boyle County Public Library has once again partnered with the AARP Foundation and the United Way of the Bluegrass to host free tax preparation service. Now through mid-April, tax professionals will be set up in the library on Tuesdays and Saturdays to assist people with the tax filing process. This service is made possible through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. These tax preparation services are available by appointment only.
AARP tax assistance services will be available on Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Although anyone can make an appointment, the program is especially focused on low-to-moderate-income taxpayers who are age 50 and older. The United Way VITA Tax Preparation Assistance will be available by appointment only on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for people whose household income was less than $56,000 this past year. For more information and to schedule an appointment call 2-1-1 or go online to uwbg.org/CKEEP.
