Pet of the Week; Doggie Dash run-walk set for April 30

Published 5:00 am Monday, March 14, 2022

This week, our featured pet is Tank, a handsome Treeing Walker Coonhound mix of about three years old. This hunting dog is big and lean, with a goofy swagger. Tank came to us after being found as a stray, and he’s been the perfect gentleman so far. After neuter surgery, Tank didn’t mess with his stitches at all – what a good dog! We do know that Tank likes chasing chickens a bit too much, but other than that, he’s the sweetest guy you could hope to meet.

True to his breed, Tank is affectionate, friendly, and intelligent. He will want lots of exercise and activities to keep him – and his nose! – busy. Given his intelligence, Tank will be easy to train and would make a great running or hiking partner. If you are looking for an active companion, Tank might be the guy for you!

Tank is fixed, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready to go home. If you are interested in adopting, please bring your family and dog for a meet and greet Monday – Friday between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Before coming out, give us a call to ensure the pet you’re interested in is still available and complete an online application to save time: https://bit.ly/2Qo4EfE. If you cannot make it to the shelter during open hours, you can email me at karikuh@dbchs.org to set an appointment to meet a specific animal.

Doggie Dash is back! Join us on April 30 for a fun Derby-themed 5K Run with a 3K dog walk option to benefit the Danville-Boyle County Humane Society (DBCHS). All proceeds go towards the shelter’s operational fund and promote the humane treatment of companion animals through sheltering, adoption, community engagement, and spay/neuter programs.

All dogs are welcome as long as they are on a fixed leash, up-to-date on vaccines, and are dog, people, and child-friendly. No retractable leashes, please. DBCHS will also be out with adoptable dogs of our own, so if you don’t have a furry friend come to find your new running buddy! Due to the booked schedule of Millennium Park, we will make this happen rain or shine but will follow proper storm precautions.

All runners will receive a t-shirt with their registration. Register by April 11th to guarantee your size. Plus, there are awards!

Overall first-place finishers and first-place finishers in each age category for the 5K race will receive a prize. All registered dogs will receive a gift, too. Register at runsignup.com/Race/KY/Danville/DoggieDash5KFunRunWalk now!
