New exhibit opens at Shaker Village on Saturday

Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill will open a new exhibit, Local Economies, Global Impacts, to the public on Saturday, March 26. The exhibit will showcase how the Pleasant Hill Shakers’ communal structure supported the local production of brooms, textiles, seeds and more – and how these products connected this small community to a much larger world.
“The opening of this exhibition is the culmination of two years of new research and interpretive planning at Shaker Village,” said Shaker Village Vice President of Public Programming and Marketing Billy Rankin. “We can’t wait to share this experience with our guests. It’s unlike anything they’ve seen here before.”
This groundbreaking exhibition represents a bold step in Shaker Village’s sitewide interpretive plan. Spanning three rooms in two historic buildings, visitors to this new, permanent installation will discover the fascinating story of Shaker ingenuity, manufacturing and marketing through personal stories, interactives and rarely seen artifacts.
Special tours to celebrate the opening of the exhibit will be held on Saturday, March 26th at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Registration is required to attend one of these tours and can be booked on shakervillageky.org’s event calendar. After March 26th, access to the exhibit is included with paid admission to the Village from 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. daily. Annual Passholders receive free admission to the exhibit and many other Shaker Village special events.
Funding for Local Economies, Global Impacts was made possible through a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, along with the generous contributions of private donors.
