Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center will offer a phlebotomy class in May.
The class provides participants an opportunity to expand their skill base and seek additional employment opportunities. Upon completion of the certification program, participants will be able to successfully phlebotomize patients, collect basic laboratory specimens, and understand basic concepts of laboratory tests. Candidates qualify to take the national American Society of Clinical Pathology exam after one year of employment at a CLIA certified laboratory.
The class will take place on May 10, 12, 17, 19, 24, 26, 31, and June 2. Each class will meet from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The training will be held at the Gilcher Building in the Nightingale Room. After completion of the initial class, all participants will then be scheduled for 64 hours of hands-on training at an Ephraim McDowell Health facility that must be completed by July 1, 2022.
The cost is $850 and class attendance is mandatory. This includes the cost of the textbook and supplies.
