Pets of the week

Our pets of the week are Mariah and Tara. These two sweethearts came from a situation where they didn’t get the attention they needed and are now looking for permanent homes where they can be loved and cared for properly.

Mariah is a darling little thing of about 25 pounds, with sleek gray fur. She is young, not quite a year old, and seemed shy and reserved at first. However, she enjoyed her doggy day out at the Earth Day Festival and came out of her shell! Mariah loved meeting new people – especially kids – and did a great job on a leash at the crowded event. Mariah also does well in doggy playgroups, joyously running around the yard.

Tara is a sweet, almost 40-pound two-year-old girl with gorgeous eyes and brown fur with white markings. She also had a fantastic field trip to the festival! Like her buddy Mariah, she walked well on a leash and rode in the car like a champ. She’s also good with kids and loved getting loved on, giving kisses freely. Tara went to a Centre College baseball game and wasn’t bothered by the loud sounds and exciting environment. She met a few dogs at the game and did well with them all.

Both Tara and Mariah are treat motivated and already know the sit command! Tara even knows how to “give paw”, and once she’s done showing off her tricks, she rolls over to get belly rubs. Tara and Mariah will make amazing additions to any home and can be adopted together or separately.

Tara and Mariah are fixed, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready to go home. If you are interested in adopting, please bring your family and dog for a meet and greet Monday – Friday between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Before coming out, give us a call to ensure the dog you’re interested in is still available, and complete an online application to save time: https://bit.ly/2Qo4EfE. Can’t make it to the shelter during open hours? Email me at karikuh@dbchs.org to make an appointment.

Doggie Dash is this Saturday! Join us at Millennium Park for a fun Derby-themed 5K Run with a 3K dog walk option to benefit the Danville-Boyle County Humane Society (DBCHS). All proceeds go towards the shelter’s operational fund and promote the humane treatment of companion animals through sheltering, adoption, community engagement, and spay/neuter programs.

Participants will receive a t-shirt with their registration. Plus, there are awards! Overall first-place finishers and first-place finishers in each age category for the 5K race will receive a prize. All registered dogs will receive a gift, too. Register at runsignup.com/Race/KY/Danville/DoggieDash5KFunRunWalk now!
