Youth Arts Festival 2022 opens at Pioneer Playhouse

The Arts Commission has sponsored the Youth Arts Festival for many years.  After a two-year break due to Covid, the Festival is back with a new look.  The 2022 Festival will be staged at Pioneer Playhouse in the indoor theater May 10th – 12th from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm each day.  Students, friends, family, and the public are welcome to attend at any time.  The events are free.

The festival focuses on visual art with 14 different schools and programs across the county participating.  Over 400 pieces of art by children from Kindergarten to high school will be on display.  The art is all selected by the teachers to demonstrate the variety of art experiences offered by the schools. Student work will represent the full range of the visual arts taught in all the programs and presents a unique opportunity for visitors to study and enjoy the depth of offerings in the schools.

This year, during the evening hours, the festival will include the performing arts with presentations by children of all ages.  Performances of dance, music, and drama will involve hundreds of budding artists on the stage at the Playhouse.

The Arts Commission will host the Rotary Club of Danville for its regular lunch meeting and a student performance on Friday, May 13, before the 2022 Festival comes to an official close.

The Festival is made possible, in part, by the Hudson-Ellis Fund and the Powell Family Charitable Fund, both of which have been long time supporters to provide opportunities which expand arts education in the schools.
