The Boyle County Public Library offers numerous free activities, special events, and services for the community all year long. Interactive activities often include storytimes, author visits, crafting events, and book clubs. This month the library has scaled back most of its regularly scheduled youth events to prepare for an activity-packed, all-ages summer reading program, which begins on June 1st. Here are some of the upcoming events being held at the library:
Third Thursday Book Club
In May the book club will be reading The Peach Keeper by Sarah Addison Allen. Join the book discussion on Thursday, May 19 at 10:30 AM in the Community Room. (Ages 18+)
Magic the Gathering
On Thursday, May 19 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, the library will host Magic the Gathering, a fun, fast-paced strategy card game from Wizards of the Coast. This event will be held in the Conference Room at the library. (Ages 13+)

Jeanne Penn Lane “Celebration of Kentucky Writers”
On Saturday, May 21 from 12:00-4:30 PM, the library will host the 25th Jeanne Penn Lane “Celebration of Kentucky Writers.” The event will feature an outstanding line-up of Kentucky-based writers, many of whom are award-winning and/or best-selling authors. Among the many presenters will be Pulitzer Prize finalist poet Maurice Manning who will be reading from his work and singing. Many of the writers will have their books available for purchase.
Chad Horn will open and close the program. Readers include Ruth Rogers, Doris Settles, Darlene Campbell, Chris Helvey, Virgil Hayes, Ginny Smith, Maurice Manning, Rick Lee, Paul Stansbury, and Jenean McBrearty. A complete schedule can be found in the event listing on the library’s website. This free event will be held in the Community Room at the library. All are invited to attend.
In addition to the Saturday event, there will also be a program beginning at 12:00 PM on Sunday, May 22 at Historic Penn’s Store in Gravel Switch, Kentucky featuring music and readings. This event is also free and open to the public.
